Are there any particular books that you recommend? I don't really know how to cross-stitch all that much. My mom does, though, and she's made beautiful projects for our home. She's planning on teaching me, but I need to find some books that have projects/patterns. Because I can't do a thing without a pattern! lol I'm just not talented in that area. :)

Those projects are beautiful!! I was blown away by how beautiful they look! Did you use a project book for each of those? If so, which one? lol :) What a blessing it is to meet another girl who has a hopechest! That beautiful tradition is not as common as it once was, so it's such a joy to meet girls who do that! My grandfather is a carpenter and I hope he will make me one for my 16th birthday(not until July :)). I can't wait to learn how to knit, embroider, cross-stitch, crochet more, etc.(do you have any books that your recommend for these areas-that include instructions on how to learn/do that specific task, patterns, project ideas, etc. ?), so that I can begin making items for it! I have Rebecca Wilson's book, but have not really read much of it yet.

Those items make such beautiful and treasured gifts! Those kinds of things (like the handmade items for your hopechest) will be perfect for family heirlooms, passed down through the generations!

Thanks for sharing with us!

So true about it being a great way to spend your time while listening to something or watching a movie, etc. When I was crocheting a baby blanket for my cousin, I would often listen to Vision Forum lectures at the same time. What a great way to not be idle, but to really use every moment to the best of your ability! That's really becoming a Proverbs 31 woman, in the area of not eating the bread of idleness!Rebekah S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/04269150765888375195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32145813.post-76503506686365249612007-10-03T16:04:00.000-05:002007-10-03T16:04:00.000-05:002007-10-03T16:04:00.000-05:00I love to cross-stitch as well. I have found that ...I love to cross-stitch as well. I have found that it is good to do as I watch a movie or listen to Radio Drama or Adventures in Odyssey. It helps me feel less lazy.

Right now, I am working on a big project...and I have been for months. It had better be done for Christmas. It is a nativity scene, so no wonder I need it. (Besides, friends are getting things too!)Ellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12361895789616410614noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32145813.post-24307741835216854042007-10-03T10:19:00.000-05:002007-10-03T10:19:00.000-05:002007-10-03T10:19:00.000-05:00Becky K, I'm pretty sure there are cross stitch ho...Becky K, I'm pretty sure there are cross stitch how-to books you can get in craft sections. I'd recommend starting with a project that is cross stitch printed on the cloth; then you just have to stitch where the symbols are and it's not so confusing about how to count!

Bekah, I've added you to the Maidens for Modesty list. Yes, I enjoy cross stitching a lot yet don't always make the time... I guess that's because there's so much else to do.

Anna S, exactly!

Beverly, I'm sure you're busy with your sweet little girl, but cross stitch is something you can do in spare moments.

Robert, I've always enjoyed watching old-fashioned movies where the women always had their hands busy. We could learn a lot from them!

Lydia, thanks for stopping by our blog! Mommy and I went through some needlepoint kits tonight and I am looking forward to starting one. Though I must confess I have a hard time starting and finishing them, I don't make the time:\ don't know why, I really enjoy doing them. Anyway, I admire you girls.
~BekahBekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012916566586719265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32145813.post-7990412492212632502007-10-02T20:55:00.000-05:002007-10-02T20:55:00.000-05:002007-10-02T20:55:00.000-05:00I loved your pictures - your projects turned out b...I loved your pictures - your projects turned out beautifully. I am sure the recipients of your gifts loved them. I do not know how to embroider or cross-stitch. I would love to learn how....that and sewing. More things to add to my list of "to-learn" for homemaking. Any suggestions?Becky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05002327881890150875noreply@blogger.com
