Girly Things Discussion: Perfume

Anna's Thoughts

To tell the truth, I hardly ever wear perfume. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on the subject! I don't wear it because I think it's bad, but because I usually simply forget to even think about putting it on.

When I was younger, I went through a phase where I wore perfume because I thought it was special and elegant. Sometimes I add a spritz now and then just to enjoy the scent and lift my spirits.

Perfume can be a very feminine thing. I've always thought stories of ladies remembered by the certain scent they always wore were sweet, especially when it was their children or husband remembering their special scent as they smelled things that used to be home. It can be fun to pick a scent to "define" you, one that is somewhat based on your personality. Scents can quickly help to recall memories, which can be a sweet and somewhat romantic thing.

I don't really have a favorite scent, although I've always liked the "turquoise sea" one from Calgon. Part of the reason I haven't settled on a certain scent to "define" me is because I've never wanted to spend the money that real perfume costs. All the perfume I have is more of the "body spray" variety, given to me as gifts, although I do have a small vial of "real" perfume as a special gift from my mother.

If you do wear perfume, I think the key is that you don't overdo it. Although a faint whiff may be fine for others to recognize that you're in the room, you shouldn't have an overpowering odor emanating from you, no matter how sweet it smells! A little will really go a long way.

Miriam's Thoughts

I've always enjoyed wearing a scent in the form of body spray. Real perfume costs too much and the other is often just as good. Perfume is fun to wear and I do it pretty often. Come to think of it, that's probably the most "girly" thing about me. =)

Though I enjoy an assortment of scents, my favorite is probably "sweet pea" from Bath & Body Works. If I wanted a scent that would define me, then I would choose that one.

I guess I don't have a lot to say about perfume, except to reiterate what Anna said about wearing too much. A little does go a long way, so just use a little spritz to refresh yourself.

Now, would you please share? Feel free to answer all, any, or none of the questions! Gentlemen, we also welcome you to give your thoughts on this matter if you care to!

  • What are your thoughts on perfume?
  • How often do you wear perfume?
  • What is your favorite scent? Do you wear it all of the time to "define" you?

I have used perfume about once or twice because I got some very sweet-smelling strawberry perfume a long time ago for my 9th birthday. Otherthan wearing that a couple times, I have not used perfume.

I love wearing perfume! I work in a very male industry, so I love to wear a lovely feminine floral sweet scent at work, as a reminder of my femininity. My signature scent would definitely have to be jasmine. Its my favourite flower and my favourite scent, so whilst I haven't chosen that flower to define me, it has kind of happened.

I use body spray about every day because some of my family smokes, and I don't like smelling like it at work! I just grab a spray out of the various ones I've received over the years from people giving them as gifts, or my sister cleaning out her stash and giving them to me! :) As far as a favorite scent, I would have to say the perfume Lucky You. I barely use it though, it's mainly for special occasions.

I wear the body sprays like you both, because yes, perfumes are expensive.

I love Bath and Body Works, but since I use various different sprays, one scent doesn't define me,

However, I do forget to put it on almost all the time. =)

I am like both of you in that I wear body mist because the real stuff costs a little more then I am willing to spend. I don't wear it all the time, but when I do, I like soft sents. I don't really have a favorite at this point. I think the main thing to remember is to not try and bring to much attention to yourself aka wear too much. That can make you seem bold even if you are not.

Body sprays are just as good as perfumes... at least in my opinion. Still, I usually don't wear any, though I might for special occasions, especially those I wear make-up for!

I don't really don't use perfume that often. I fell in love with one scent but the name of the scent and the store it comes from just go against my beliefs so i'm on the hunt for a knock-off lol. But just a lil tid bit, I have a half bottle of this perfume called Charlie. And i keep it on my dresser just so every now and again I can open it up to smell it cause that was my Grandmother's "scent". Everytime I smell it brings back so many memories.

God bless,

I love body spray! My favorite smell is coconut lime verbana from bath & body works. My mom has some perfume that she usually only wears when she goes on a date with Daddy, and every time I smell it, I know something special is going to happen!

I'm not a huge perfume person because it tends to make my mom sneeze. I usually put it on if I've had a busy day and am not smelling clean...quick spray and I can make it through the rest of the day.

I think it's intersting how you can connect scents like people's perfumes to them. Anytime I smell Old Spice I think of one of my best guy friends.

I don't wear perfume that much. In the summer when going to a semi-formal occasion, I sometimes put on a little body spray if I feel like it. (And, yes, real perfume is too expensive.) But mostly I just don't think about it. I definitely don't have a "defining" scent, though that does sound very sweet. Lovely smells are very lovely, but don't overdo it! :) I know everyone has said that, but that's because it's true!

I like to use it every once in a while for my own enjoyment. I don't like anything that is too strong, becuse I don't want to draw attention to myself.

I don't wear perfume, partly because I've never smelled one I like and mostly because it causes breathing difficulties for so many people (there are many just in our church).

I like to use body spray when going out, but I don't have a particular scent that represents me, just whatever I happen to have, I use. :)

I love perfume! Though I also wear the "scent mist" or whatever because it's cheaper and there's no real difference except that it's not as strong and doesn't come in as pretty bottles. But I recently recieved a gift from my aunt of my dead cousin's collection of perfume bottles (just the bottles) before my cousin was killed she collected them. So I put all my "scent mists" in those really pretty bottles and now I'm not missing out on anything! I have some real perfume, but I actually prefer the "fakes" better. Haha! The "real" stuff seems to all smell the same to me, but the sweet, fruity, flowery, etc. scents that I like better come in the "body mist" version.

Almost every time I leave the house!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SCENT? depends on what you mean my favorite. My favorite now is "Rebel Rose" by Avon, but that's a recent change. My "old favorite" is "Fresh Flowers" by American Girl (as in the doll company) I don't even know if they make it anymore, but it was my favorite and my "signature scent" when I was little. I only have a little bit of it left and no longer want to support the AG company so I won't be buying more, but I wear it every once and a while to remind me of the "old days"

Yes and no. Rebel Rose (and used to be the Fresh Flowers) is my "signature scent". I LOVE having a "signature scent", but I also like to mix it up every once and a while with some of my other stuff. And sometime the perfume doesn't "match" an outfit. When I'm wearing a light and springy outfit some of the "heavier" scents don't always work, just like wearing a light and fluffly floral scent won't really work with a sweater. But except for those cases I generally stick with one or two scents.

On the "" "Modesty Survey" they have some great "text answers" from guys about girls wearing perfume.

For years I wore body spray everyday. It was just part of my daily routine.
Last Christmas, I was given a really nice floral-scented perfume. I only wear this when I'm going to church or I'm out with friends or family.

I've received body sprays and perfumes as gifts, but rarely use them because I also forget to put them on! Sometimes I'll glance at them on a Sunday and remember it would be nice to use one I haven't used in a while, or use a little when I go out somewhere special. They're fun, but not something that's terribly important to me, so often it just doesn't happen! ...and as long as it smells good, I'll wear it. I don't have a favorite scent.

In my family there are many allergies, so commercial perfume is usually a bad idea for us because we don't know if it will set someone off or not. I like to wear a tiny bit of essential oil on special occasions, though. My favorite is rose, and my best friend's favorite is lavender.

Catos is a clothing store that has perfume that smells nice and is cheap(like about $5)
I think that their perfume is better than the expensive kinds!
