Only By God's Grace

"But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them - yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me." - 1 Corinthians 15:10

When things go right and others praise you, it's all too easy to become proud. Look at what I can do! Look at what I've accomplished. Yet we must keep a proper perspective. We are not doing it on our own - it is only by God's grace. It is only by His grace that we are who we are.

It can be hard to remember sometimes. We can look around and see others slacking off, and be proud of ourselves for working hard and accomplishing good things. But we must remember, though we may work "harder than all of them," it is not us doing the work, but the grace of God that is with us. Without Him, we could do nothing worth doing.

If you haven't already, thank God for His grace today, and transfer the focus off of yourself and onto Him.

Father, break me of my pride. Let me never forget that You are the One who has made me who I am, and I can do nothing in my own strength. Thank you for the grace You so freely give me day after day, even though I don't deserve it... You are worthy of all the glory and honor. Let people not see me, but You living in me, and Your abundant grace in my life.

I agree it is very easy to be prideful of ourselves and forget that the great things in our life can only be accomplished by the grace of God and his glory.

Thank you so much for this post. I needed to read that today. :) I found your blog through a link to those who enjoy reading Do Hard Things. I enjoy that book. God bless you both!

It's interesting that God's grace toward us was one of the main things that was focused on during church meeting this morning. Thank you for writing this post. Elisa
