Two Shoppers are Better than One!

Yesterday Miriam and I had a fun time together shopping! We will be the first to tell you that shopping is not on our top-ten list of favorite things to do. However, I needed to get quite a few things for college, so we made it our mission for Thursday.

Usually I'd go shopping with a sister or two, but with all of them away but Jubilee (who, to put it mildly, doesn't really enjoy shopping) I needed to find someone else. After all, two shoppers are better then one! As Miriam and I enjoy every opportunity we have together, I knew it would be fun to shop with her. Having someone else to help find things and decide on what to get is great; when it's your best friend, it's even better!

She spent Wednesday night at our house, and after a memorable early morning, we set out around 9 a.m. on Thursday. Jubilee got dropped off at a friend's house to spend the day, and we were off!

Our first stop was Faith Rescue Mission, where I found a pretty white shirt. As is usually the case when we're together, someone asked if we were sisters. "No, we're not - just good friends!" With quite a few matching clothes and an enjoyment of dressing alike, we often get mistaken for sisters. And as we're kindred souls and close friends, it's no wonder!

After going to Burke's Outlet, Ross Dress for Less, Target, and Books-a-million, we were ready for lunch! We enjoyed a meal together at Arby's, spending a little longer time there then we'd first meant too...

After finishing our lunch, we headed out to car, where I realized with a huge sinking feeling that I'd locked my keys in the car. I've never done this before - I always make sure that my keys are in my hand when I get out of the car, but as I was rummaging for something in the backseat before getting out, somehow I'd left the keys in the ignition and locked the doors. Thankfully, mom had just put me on their AAA account, and I'd just gotten a AAA card last week. I called and explained the problem, and within 1/2 an hour, someone came to pry open part of the door and unlock it. Praise God!

Things like that just go to show that things can happen when you least expect it... I'm now even more careful to make sure my keys are safely in hand before I lock the doors!

We set off again, this time going to Hancock Fabrics then another Burke's Outlet. It was a hot day, and we were very thankful for the car's air conditioning. The driving between stores gave us plenty of opportunity to talk about current issues, laugh over old memories, and just be together. Friends are such a blessing!

While at Burke's we decided to model some of their hats. Doesn't Miriam look stunning?

I go for something old-fashioned-looking, of course! =)

Our last stop of the day was Walmart, where I ended up getting the bulk of what I needed. Thanks to the generosity of people giving me gift cards for graduation or thank-yous for dance or musical presentations, I didn't have to pay too much cash, and even that was thanks to very generous gifts. There's still a few things I need to find, but for the most part, I'm prepared for college life.

We finished shopping around 4:30 p.m., a tired twosome! I drove Miriam to her house, then continued on my way home. It will be a memorable day, shopping with my dear friend. Two are indeed better than one!

How fun! Shopping is so relaxing to me. I don't know why you Lofgren girls don't enjoy it more. :) We did have fun after Thanksgiving, though, didn't you?
I also would be interested in hearing about your morning...

Sounds like fun! But yes, shopping is very tiring, and definately not my favorite pastime- we spend very little money! Glad to hear you're almost ready. :)

Or Miriam...why not just sitting in the car =)

Okay, if you must hear about the memorable morning... As long as you don't mind, Miriam!

Your comment, Miriam, "a bug on a tree" made me crack up...

Okay, so a lot of you know how I like to pose pictures - I have images in my head that I try to set up for the camera, but that don't always turn out as I imagined.

So on Thursday morning I tried to set up the brilliant idea of mine to take a picture of us in long dresses - up in a tree - reading - for our book post. Original and reminiscent of Jo in Little Women, right? Well, maybe it wasn't such a brilliant idea.

I found the only ladder I could find, which happened to be a somewhat rickety one my dad had been using in the guest house, set it below the tree, (albeit on somewhat unstable ground, it seemed okay) and proceeded to climb up and get in the tree. Next Miriam came up and placed one leg up in the tree (the ladder didn't quite reach all of the way) then questioned me about the safety of the ladder. I assured her it was fine - after all, I'd just made it up! I then instructed her to put her foot on the limb and step up. As she moved her foot back, her other foot slipped on the ladder, which toppled over and broke, with Miriam flying back and getting and landing with the ladder in a heap. As you can imagine, I screamed! Thankfully Miriam was okay, just tangled up in the ladder. She does have some nice battle scars now... hope your back is feeling fine, my dear!

Since I was still up in the tree, Jubilee snapped a picture, then I jumped down and we took some others pictures - safely on the ground! I'll think twice next time I think of taking pictures in a tree...

I am glad y'all had a great time together! I can picture your memorable morning, although it's funny, I'm glad your alright Miriam!

Anna, I couldn't help but smile when I read you bought the bulk of what you needed at Wal-Mart, my Daddy likes to tease my Mama and I saying we can go to the Mall and shop all day and end up at Wal-Mart to find what we are looking for!

Sounds like you both had fun!

My best friend and I used to shop together all the time - until college and then marriage separated us! :~) We made some good memories while out and about together. The day after Thanksgiving was our tradition for a long time! Living in separate states makes that a bit hard now! Now I go with my sisters who also enjoy shopping.

Glad you are okay Miriam! Cute pictures idea though Anna!

Mardi: Yes, Walmart has what I usually need, and at better prices! I just can't reconcile buying way expensive stuff if I can get it cheaper at Walmart! Though quality plays a factor, usually it's just as good if not better.

Jody: I experienced my first day-after-Thanksgiving shopping trip last year with my sisters and sister-in-law. It was fun but tiring!
