Through the Week in Feminine Dress

Having enjoyed Ladies Against Feminism's Through the Week in Feminine Dress series and having seen and enjoyed many other girls doing it on their blog, we decided to do a week of our own. This next week, Monday through Sunday, we each will be posting pictures of our outfit for that day, and sharing a little bit about what we did each day. We hope that you'll enjoy getting a glimpse into our daily routines, and enjoy seeing that you can indeed do many things in a dress or skirt!

Anna's Thoughts:

Wearing a dress/skirt every day won't be anything new for me. As most of you know, I've been wearing them almost exclusively for almost two years now, because I'd just rather wear a dress! I've really enjoyed the beauty of skirts and dresses, and love feeling like a lady and "princess" every single day. Though it is definitely a different way of dressing, I really don't mind. Most people have gotten used to it, and I've gotten many compliments on my outfits. Wearing pants doesn't make one any less a woman, but I really like how wearing a dress reminds me that I am a woman and that I should act like one.

So, although this won't really be a "challenge" to me, I hope that you'll enjoy seeing that there are many different things that are easily done in a dress!

Miriam's Thoughts:

I'm looking forward to wearing skirts and dresses exclusively for a week. I wear skirts for about half of my normal week, so it won't be that different. Sometimes it seems so easy to just pull on my jeans or capris to go outside or to just work around the house, but a skirt is just as easy, if not easier. So, my week begins!

Please note that we are in no way saying that one is somehow "better" if one only wears skirts or dresses. We just want to do this week to encourage you all to dress in a lovely, feminine way, and to show that it is very easy and fun to wear dresses in daily life!

I love what you girls are going to do. I ought to do it myself, when I get home that is! =)

Anna - are you going to continue wearing your homemade dresses when you go to college? They are so pretty, it would be a shame to not wear them. And what a good example you would set!

Ella: I'd enjoy seeing you do it on your blog! It's fun! =) Hope you're having a great vacation!

Courtney: I hope to continue wearing my homemade dresses at college. I'm not focused on keeping with current fashions. ;-) Most likely I'll wear more casual skirts to classes and stuff, but Sundays are always an occasion to dress up a little more!

I wear skirts on a daily basis just because I like them. Pants are okay, but I just don't like them as much.

I'm looking forward to seeing your week! :-) I always think you two girls are dressed very prettily.

I wear skirts 95% of the time these days, so I should do a post like this too.

I appreciate that you ladies aren't saying that wearing skirts is the "best" or "only" way. It's all too easy to think that what we feel convicted to do should be what everyone does, however I've found this is often not the case. My philosophy is: if it is simply a matter of conviction (and is not commanded or prohibited by the Bible) then it's a personal thing. I appreciate that you are willing to step out of the all-too-often found pride and be real. I enjoyed reading your "week of feminine dress" and just getting a look into your life!
Thanks.

Wow, great idea! After I read your posts and saw your pictures, though, I have a question. Yes, you may be wearing skirts, but can't your dress be just a sloppy and your person as unattended to(I think a sign of disrespect and slovenliness, not ignored vanity) in skirts as in pants? If I were to do a week of feminine dress, I'd finish the ends and look really put together - sashes/belts, practical mid-heels, real blouses instead of guy-ey polos; I mean, go 100% feminine with things (other than just skirts) that ONLY girls can wear!

Anonymous: Yes, we can definitely be sloppy when dressed in skirts/dresses, and I know I err on that side sometimes. I tend to dress simply, as a personal taste, but I'm trying to incorporate more feminine things. I think we need to be careful not to demand that just because we want to dress femininely, we must be dressed up all of the time. I don't want to be so worried about getting my clothes dirty or rumpled when I'm doing chores around the house or playing with little children. In the pictures I'm not wearing shoes, simply because I'm more comfortable in bare feet.

I hope I didn't look sloppy and unattended to in the pictures, although some of them are more relaxed then others. The purpose of the pictures was to show that we can do many practical things while still maintaining femininity. I think it comes down to personal taste... Although I am slowly incorporating more feminine things, we are also allowed to be comfortable. There are certainly ways to do both, and I am continuing to learn, as we all are. I certainly don't aim to be disrespectful or slovenly in how I dress.

Thanks for your thought-provoking comment.

Anna and Miriam-
I have been doing pretty much the same this week! I wore jeans on Monday, but on Tuesday and Thursday I wore a dress and on Wednesday I wore a dress-ish thing with tights underneath because I thought it was too short without tights. Tomorrow is Friday and I plan on wearing a skirt because I haven't wore one this week. When I started wearing dresses and skirts I thought I would be so uncomfortable but actually I feel more self confident!
