Spring Kittens!

The birth of kittens is often another one of the beautiful things that mark the arrival of spring. Usually our cats have at least one litter a year, and they are often born right around Jubilee's birthday. About a week ago, we noticed that Grace was no longer pregnant. She often haves her kittens in secret, so the search was on to find out where she'd hidden them this time. Though Jubi looked long and hard, she couldn't find them. Add to that that Grace was around most of the time (not seeming to be spending time away with her kittens), and we sadly assumed that she must have miscarried her babies.

Yesterday, however, Dad was putting wood in the wood shed (an old horse barn on our property) and he heard kittens loudly meowing! Upon further investigation, we found that Grace's babies were indeed well and alive, 4 sweet little balls of fur hidden in an old feeding trough. One of the kitties we found had fallen out and down among the wood, so praise God we found them when we did!

We aren't yet positive which are boys and which are girls, so the names we've picked may change. We decided that since the kittens are so soft and nice to rub, we'd give them all names of different kinds of cloth!

Meet:
Calico, a sweet tabby

Cotton, who seems to be the littlest one

Satin, so cute with white paws and black coat

and Wool, the adventurous one!

We enjoy holding and playing with the kittens until they've learned to eat cat food, and are being weaned. At about 6 weeks we go to parking lots or ball games with a sign saying "Free Kittens"! They're so cute, but as we already have 5 adult cats, we really need to give them away when the time comes. In the meantime, they're fun to hold!

O there are adorable!!! We use to have two kittens but that ran away. I love the name Calico, and Cotton. Could you perhaps send one to Texas?

Aww I love baby kittens! I want to take Cotton home with me (:

New births are a blessing! The comfort a kitty can bring to a family is amazing. I know our cat, Boo Bear, can bring some much needed laughter to our home at times.

How sweet! I love kittens, but Mom is allergic...and Nikki the dog wouldn't take to kindly to them...so I must content myself with photos!

To anonymous: If you comment please leave your name so that we can see who you are. It's true that we don't fix our cat, and it's also true that there are a lot of unwanted kittens. However, this has been our parent's decision, and I think that in this country we're free to choose. We do our best to find good homes for our kittens.

To the rest of you: Glad you liked the pictures! Sorry, but I think it'd be impossible to send the kittens through the mail. =)

Sweet! This brings back fond memories! You all chose creative names. We used to name ours after states and cities.

Such cuties! I have a quick question that truly arises out of curiosity, and not a desire to cause trouble or be a "troll". If it is not too forward, I'd like to ask if your parents chose not to spay your cat out of religious beliefs or just a love of kittens:) I am just beginning to be familiar with the "quiverfull movement" and the belief that God opens and closes the womb. Does this belief extend to animals as well? Again, I am not trying to stir up controversy and hope I am not being too forward, I am just hoping to gain a greater understanding.

Elizabeth Ellen Moore: That's a good idea - naming them after states or cities. We often run out of names, and have, I admit, named different kittens the same thing!

Suki Lucier: My mom really likes kittens, and enjoys the cuties coming each spring. It's not out of a religious conviction or anything, though she does think it nice to let the mother kitties have babies. I'm pretty sure we have had cats fixed in the past.
