Chores and Music

I just spent a delightful time sweeping and washing the kitchen floor while listening to a CD of Mozart's Flute Concertos. Wait - did I say delightful time cleaning? I sure did! =)

On Fridays I try to get weekly cleaning done - kind of a freshening up at the end of the week. Today I wasn't really looking forward to it, but eventually forced myself to do it. However, once I started, I enjoyed the vigor of shaking rugs in the crisp clean air, then cleaning the house while listening to sweet and soothing music. It was a nice energizing time spent that produced enjoyable results in a clean house!

Chores don't have to be drudgery; if you decide to enjoy them and do them with a cheerful heart, they can actually be fun! Yes, I am speaking to myself at the same time - after all, there are plenty of times when I do chores grudgingly. However, one thing I've found that helps chores get done quickly with joy is to listen to music while cleaning. Some days it's lovely classical music, as it was today. Other days it's upbeat praise music I can sing along to or the local Christian radio station. Whatever it is, just turning something on can make a lasting and wonderful change in my mood!

Oh - and wearing a pretty apron while cleaning helps one feel lovely and ready to work!

What helps you feel cheerful and energized while doing chores?

Anna, I love listening to music when I clean. More often than not, it something I can sing along to!

What an inspiring post, Anna! :) What a blessing this post was for me. I, as well, am sometimes guilty of doing house cleaning and chores grudgingly. I wish this wasn't the case, but it's a proof of the fact that I'm a sinner!

I,too, listen to music sometimes while I clean. But I haven't done it quite as often. I will definitely do so after reading this encouraging and uplifting post! :) Another great thing to do while cleaning is listening to some sort of lecture on CD(for instance, Vision Forum CD messages). It's a great way to save time(and to not be idle!) and to make your time really count for something.

Something else to help you get through cleaning chores is remembering that whether you do them grugingly or happily, you have to do them anyway, so purpose to do them happily-it'll make the task and time go by faster! Also, to remember that when you're done you'll be able to move on to something you enjoy more, is a great way to get through those tasks joyfully. When I'm cleaning and doing other chores, I often try to think on Col. 3:23 "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men."

Thank you for yet another great post! :) Your future husband, family, and home will be truly blessed by you, dear Anna!

What a coincidence! Friday just happens to be our cleaning day too :) Friday is also our Pizza & movie night.

I like to listen to operas while I clean, it just always seems like good cleaning music!

Blessings, Jessica

I really enjoy cleaning (for the most part!), but there are those days that I'd rather not do it. Some verses that have always blessed me during these times are:

"She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness." Proverbs 31:27

"She . . . works with her hands in delight." Proverbs 31:13.

The last verse in particular reminds me that no matter what task I am undertaking, I should do it as for the Lord with delight. And listening to music, like you shared, is one way to help encourage this heart attitude. :)

Ella: Yes, usually it's music I can sing along to. It helps me keep going and I have a wonderful time doing it!

Rebekah: I've also listened to CDs of lectures while cleaning, and it's a good way to use the time. When I'm going in and out of a room, however, music is easier to listen to! =) Colossians 3:23 is a favorite of mine as well - it reminds us to really work hard for the Lord!

Jessica: Opera music would be very energetic to clean to! =) I've recently been making pizza on Saturday nights here.

Sarah: Thanks for sharing those verses! They are indeed good ones to keep us motivated in cleaning.
