Gone Sewing!

Gone Sewing! Check back later...

That's right, you most likely won't hear much (if any) from me this next week or two. Yesterday we learned that Frontier Day is actually going to be held, in a little more than a week. This gave me the perfect excuse to sew another dress! We went to Hancock's, and found a beautiful Butterick pattern on sale for $1. I also also offered to make mom and Jubilee a dress, and we found fabrics at various stores. Now, I just need to sew them up. So, don't expect to hear much from me in the coming days, as every spare moment will be spent at the sewing machine. Can you tell I'm excited? =)

I sure wish I could sew. If I could, I would be sewing a dress that looked right out of Pride and Prejudice or Wives and Daughters. (Modest, of course!)

Ella,
Sewing is SO much fun. Don't be afraid to try. Start with a simple skirt pattern. Choose some inexpensive fabric to practice on. I find good stuff at Walmart for $1 and $2 a yard. I have to rummage sometimes, but it's worth it. Denim and chambray are easy to work with and really hard to mess up!

Surely someone in your area could help you get started? If not, take the plunge on your own. Check the library for beginning sewing books or online. There are sewing forums with ladies who don't mind answering the questions of a novice. I'd be glad to help. You can contact me through Miriam's email.
Blessings,
Mrs. Lavonne

Oh, Anna, I used that very same pattern to make my graduation gown! I just altered it a bit (made the ruffle shorter, since I am, and designed my own belt). And it just so happens that today I posted some photos of the gown on my blog. ;)

Happy sewing!

Ella, sewing really isn't that hard to pick up. The most confusing thing for me was how to thread my machine! I agree with Mrs. Lavonne, starting with a simple skirt would be a good way to learn. I learned on doll clothes. I'd be more than happy to help you through email, if you have questions.

Hannah, yes I will most definitely post pictures! =)

Claire, your dress is so beautiful! I enjoyed looking at the pictures.

Ashley, it's neat that you have the pattern! I made the bonnet for my dress as well.

I finished my dress and bonnet last night, so as soon as someone wakes up to take my picture, I'll get pictures of my dress up.

Actually, I think I'll wait on pictures and just do them all together! =)
